Base Done Properly
We excavate and compact to the depth the job needs. Cutting the sub-base is the cheapest way to make paving fail, so we do not do it.
Driveways, patios, walkways and parking areas, laid to last. Create a neat, usable outdoor space for your driveway, paths or patio. We prepare the ground and lay the surface with levels and drainage in mind.

What We Do
Most paving that fails in Cape Town does not fail because of the pavers. It fails because of what is underneath them. A driveway laid straight onto soft ground will rut and dip within a season, no matter how good the brick looked on the day.
I.B.S Construction lays driveways, patios, walkways, pool surrounds and parking areas across Cape Town. We excavate to the right depth, compact a proper crusher-run sub-base, screed the bedding layer and restrain the edges, because that is the part that decides whether the paving is still flat in five years.

Cape winters put water through everything, so falls and drainage are set out before the first paver is laid. Water needs somewhere to go that is not your back door or your neighbour's wall.
What Is Included
Our Approach
We excavate and compact to the depth the job needs. Cutting the sub-base is the cheapest way to make paving fail, so we do not do it.
Surface falls and drainage are planned first, so water runs off where it should rather than pooling or tracking towards the building.
Paving spreads sideways without restraint. We install proper edge courses so the field stays tight and the pattern does not creep.

FAQs
For a typical residential driveway, allow a few days: excavation and sub-base, then laying, then edging, jointing and compaction. Wet weather stops base work, so the schedule we quote assumes reasonable conditions and we tell you if that changes.
Sometimes, if the existing surface is sound, well drained and the extra height still works with your doors, gate and garage clearance. If it is cracked, moving or holding water we will recommend lifting it, and explain why rather than just laying over the problem.
Either. Many clients choose their own pavers and we lay them. We can also arrange supply if you would rather keep the job to one point of contact. Tell us the look you want and we will advise on what suits the traffic the area actually carries.
Almost always an inadequate sub-base, poor compaction, missing edge restraints or water running under the surface. We establish which of those caused it before quoting a repair, because relaying the same pavers onto the same failing base just repeats the problem.
